Boothbay Harbor Cong. Church
Rear view
of the church
from parking lot
before
construction began.
Addition will
be added
in the area
in front of
the parked car.
The first
order of
business
is to
completely seal
off the
Pipe Organ
to prevent
any dust
contamination
to delicate
components.
Great care
is also
taken to
protect the
existing woodwork.
( mostly original )
What construction project is
without one or
two little snags??
Once an area of
siding is
removed and
the ground work
begins,
we find a large rock standing
in the way of
our progress.
Demolition and Rough Construction Phase............
With a little determination,
and the help
of a "jack hammer",
the rock is
no longer
an issue.
Gravel is
brought in ,
and it's like
the rock was
never there.
A layer of rigid foam is set in place and radiant heat is installed for the new office space.
The new office space and rear entrance are framed.
A crane is brought in and sections of the old roof are removed and the new roof is set before the weather changes.
Framing continues on the addition above the new office space. Notice the siding is still visible on the old exterior wall.
New "Zip System" is applied to the exterior of the addition to provide decades of trouble free water and moisture protection.
The new roof line can now be seen and you can start to visualize the finished product.
Meanwhile, the floor is stripped in the old Sunday School area and the original concrete floor is removed to accommodate new plumbing and utilities which will be needed.
New waste and water lines are run to supply bathrooms and sink areas for the new Sunday School.
Once the rigid foam and wire mesh are in place, the new floor is "ready to pour".
